Dang keith you beat me to it... there was a fairly large turnout from the ross side today and AW fans came and packed their side for the most part as well...
The game had a lot of penalties.. if you were at the game you would understand thats all I am going to say about that.. Now the Little Giants are in the driver's seat to win their division for the first time in team history... Mike Smith (C) had three assists, Adam Hoffman (freshman) had the game winning goal, and Austin Wilhelm (Soph.) added 2 goals and an assist. Austin had a terrific game both scoring and physical play. Matt Hershey did oustanding in net as always... T. Hull |

Excuse my ignorance, but is Litte Giants hockey a varsity sport? I never see any coverage in the News-Messenger when I'm in town visiting my parents.

Sport or not.. | #7 | ||

Technically, we are a club sport if that makes any sense. We receive varsity letters at the end of the year, but we do not get any school funding for
hockey equipment. The expense for hockey equipment is just as much as football equipment, maybe even more. When people have skates that are $500+, sticks
that are $150 each, shin pads $40+, shoulder pads $40+, pants $50+, elbow pads $30+, gloves-it depends on what kind of gloves you get they can range anywhere
between $30 to $120, and even your girdle and cup can cost quite a bit of money too... so all these expenses are way too much for the school to pay for.

Thanks for filling me in. Hopefully I'll be able to catch a game next time I'm in Fremont. Now are you eligible for the OHSAA Tournament?

Bowling used to be a club sport but ohsaa moved it up to a varsity sport.
Last year the club equestrian team won a state title and that team was all Ross with one girl from Clyde and one from Gburg. Is the decision to be a club team a school board decision, since there is a state championship with Findlay, BG and St. John's in the hunt at the state level? I am curious what the approval process is and what goes into the decision? I am sure many of the decisions on these sports is $$$$$$$ related. What other sports are considered "club" sports that our kids participate in? |

So apparently Ross hockey is "officially" a club sport, but still participates in the OHSAA. Did some research and they were in the playoffs last
year.
