The Northern Ohio League? |
Lead | ||
|
As most forum members undoubtedly know by now The Northern Ohio League is apparently about to lose two long time members. Upper Sandusky and Galion have
signaled their intention to leave the NOL for the North Central Conference. This move would leave two open spots in the NOL. Several possible NOL
replacements have been mentioned including Fremont Ross and Sandusky. This special forum poll asks...Should Fremont Ross pursue membership in the Northern
Ohio League?
Should Ross pursue membership in the Northern Ohio League? (Total Votes: 17) - ClosedYES....Join the NOL (13 / 76.5%) NO.....Don't join the NOL (4 / 23.5%) |

It appears Fostoria made a formal application to the SLL. That means all 3 NOL schools that are Div IV are considering leaving, for those who are concerned
with that.

I CAN'T see the SLL letting Fostoria in. Too different types of schools.
Fostoria is too "city" for the rest of the SLL. They would dominate football and basketball for sure. I don't think it will happen. |

I think Ross should apply. If the NOL would lose 3 schools...how could they turn down Ross??? I love the GBC but Fremont may not get a second chance at this
opportunity. I know economically this district can not afford to go independent(should the GBC fold) This would be a shot at long term stability for Fremont
athletics.

Kyle, I'm not sure Fostoria would "dominate" the SLL. I think Genoa proved that this past season, and Eastwood is no slouch, either. But, I have
to think if Rossford was shot down, Fostoria would, also. Remember, I think it has to be unanimous for anyone to get into the SLL.

I can't see Fostoria getting into the SLL. I agree with the line of thinking that says if they wouldn't take Rossford they won't take Fostoria.

Fostoria has a better chance of getting into the SLL because of location. Gibsonburg and Elmwood may be going elsewhere in the future. Those 2 schools were the
ones who voted Rossford down.
Fremont would be okay in the NOL if the whole league is restructured. If half the league leaves that basically would force a restructure. If the NOL needs 3 or 4 schools to be back at a full league why not add Fremont, Sandusky and Findlay? I realize that Findlay would be twice, maybe 3 times the size of the current NOL schools, but do you think they could compete with Findlay in all sports? If Findlay wouldn't be a good fit for the "new" NOL, where else would they go? There basically isn't anywhere else... It's not a very honorable thing to leave one of your close rival schools high and dry. Just my 2 cents..... |

You are talking about showing "honor" to one of our league foes?
Findlay could find themselves in a league with Lima Sr., Marion Harding, and a few others, I'm sure. |

Not sure about that one, Kyle. I think should Ross and Sandusky bolt, the prospects for the remaining schools aren't good.

RossFan wrote:Thanks for the info RossFan. I wasn't aware who voted against Rossford. If indeed Gibsonburg and Elmwood were to leave the SLL the addition of both Fostoria and Rossford would be a boost. I had not considered Findlay as an option for the NOL should three spots be open. Adding Ross, Sandy and the Trojans would certainly change the league. At this point I'm not sure that many people are thrilled with the potential of just the Little Giants and Blue Streaks. If folks think Ross has too many kids what'll they think of Findlay. Keith |

Findlay too big for the NOL? Both Bellevue and Norwalk are larger than what Napoleon is. Shelby is within 20 kids of being Napoleon's size. If you looks at
it, both Sandusky and Fremont are consideribally smaller than Findlay but we hold our own with them.

And we're talking about Findlay, not Cleveland St. Ignatius.

Findlay will always be a D1 school. I don't think Bellevue, Tiffin, Willard, Shelby or Norwalk would like the idea of playing Ross and Findlay year in and
out. Either of them would dominate this league in all-sports titles.

Only if everything else fails, join the NOL. Do anyone else think that we should follow Findlay an not Sandusky into whatever conference?

My concern for Ross is if they pass up the NOL they could be left hanging should the GBC fold later on. They might not get a second shot at this.

For me it would be great for Ross and Sandusky to be in the same league but we would play them no matter what. The ideal situation would be for all three schools to remain in the same league but first and foremost we should look out for ourselves. Keith |

Keith thats a good point. I agree that we should try to keep all three schools together but if we had to follow one, Findlay would be my chose just because
they seem to be more stable then Sandusky is right now. As I said on another site, We need to get with other D I and D 2 schools in this area and start a
league with them. Toledo Whitmer, St. Johns, St. Francis, Central, Findlay, and maybe Lima and D 3 Napoleon or even Tiffin if the NOL falls apart. 8 solid
programs in all sports would make a solid conference. If that doesn't work I think we could fall back to joining the NOL or even NLL if other conferences
shake out like it seems might happen. Keith your the man but overall I think this is a better option.
